The new Redmi 17 5G has arrived in global markets with a massive silicon carbon battery. The budget device pairs a Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 processor with a 7500 mAh capacity cell but compromises on the display quality compared to its predecessor. Sales have already begun in Italy, Malaysia, and Thailand starting at 269.90 euros.
The upgrade in battery capacity is the primary selling point for this release. While the older Redmi 15 5G ran on a 7000 mAh cell, the new model steps up to a 7500 mAh silicon carbon battery. Wired charging hits 45W, and the device can also output 22.5W of reverse charging to power other accessories. This increase in battery life comes at a cost in other areas of the hardware.
Under the hood, the phone runs on a Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 processor paired with 4GB of RAM and either 128GB or 256GB of internal storage. The display is a 720p IPS panel that runs at 120Hz with a peak brightness of 825 nits. This screen represents a noticeable decrease in quality from the older model, which shipped with a 1080p screen running at 144Hz and 850 nits. For photography, the phone relies on a 50MP main camera sensor.
Buyers in Europe can already purchase the device in black, dark blue, or bright orange color options. In Italy, the base version with 128GB of storage retails for 269.90 euros, while the larger 256GB storage model costs 299.90 euros. The phone is also currently rolling out to retail shelves across Malaysia and Thailand as part of this global launch phase.
