Samsung Display Unveils Wide View Foldable OLED and 20 Inch Stretchable Panel

Samsung Display has revealed a 7.6 inch Wide View OLED panel designed to eliminate the brightness drop that plagues foldable phone creases. The hardware redesigns the organic emission layers to keep screen illumination uniform across curved edges and folding points. Alongside this mobile panel, the manufacturer also showcased a 20 inch stretchable screen and several concept displays built for artificial intelligence hardware.

Standard foldable phones suffer from a visible physical flaw. When viewing the center crease from an angle, brightness plunges to roughly 40% compared to looking directly at the glass. Samsung Display fixed this problem by altering the chemical composition and structural design of the light emitting stack. The panel maintains steady brightness levels across bendable surfaces, rollable concepts, and curved edge borders.

Samsung Display representatives detailed the breakthrough during their showcase at the IMID industry event:

The engineering team went well beyond handheld devices. By joining 2 flexible panels through micro precision tiling and lamination methods, Samsung Display created a 20 inch wide stretchable display. The physical seam between the 2 panels remains invisible while running live content. This expandable surface targets curved car dashboards, robotic interfaces, and public digital signage.

Several concept screens focused directly on artificial intelligence hardware. The exhibition floor featured a humanoid display equipped with eye tracking, an AI OLED pendant necklace, and an OLED audio turntable. Automotive cabins also received attention with a 6.4 inch Big Hole dashboard screen and a vertical slidable 15.5 inch central console panel.

Fast refresh rates dominated the desktop and laptop displays on display. Samsung showed a 31.5 inch 4K QD OLED monitor running at 360Hz, alongside a 34 inch ultrawide 360Hz QD OLED panel. Notebooks received a boost through a 16 inch 2.5K screen that hits a 300Hz refresh rate.

The OLED panel built for the Galaxy S26 Ultra secured the official Display of the Year award, recognized for introducing integrated hardware privacy protection. Samsung Display also led the conference by presenting 57 technical research papers. During the opening address, research chief Sungchan Cho outlined the next steps for visual interfaces, emphasizing context awareness and ultra low power consumption as artificial intelligence systems expand into everyday devices.
