Sea Sonic PRIME ENTERPRISE RX 1600 Earns First 80 PLUS Ruby Rating

Sea Sonic has introduced the PRIME ENTERPRISE RX 1600, becoming the first brand to secure the 80 PLUS Ruby certification at 115V. The high wattage unit is built specifically for heavy workstation and AI systems that require maximum electrical efficiency. It sets a new efficiency benchmark for the industry ahead of 2027 hardware cycles.

Administered by CLEAResult, the Ruby tier represents the most demanding efficiency standard in the history of the 80 PLUS program. Power supplies tested at 115V must hit 85% efficiency at 5% load, 91% at 10% load, 93% at 20% load, 95% at 50% load, and 91% under a full 100% load. It also requires a power factor score of at least 0.95 at 20% load. The addition of mandatory 5% and 10% test points is the biggest shift. Most desktop computers spend the majority of their operational life idling, making low power efficiency essential for lowering overall energy waste.

Handling massive electrical swings in modern AI workstations requires precise thermal and electrical management. Better conversion efficiency keeps hardware cooler by minimizing power lost as ambient heat. Walter Sun, the chief executive of Sea Sonic, pointed out how difficult this tier was to achieve.

Reaching Ruby at 115 V reflects the continued focus on efficiency in our engineering work. We are at a point where every additional percent of efficiency is difficult to achieve, but the effort is worthwhile because these small gains translate into enormous savings on a global scale.

CLEAResult echoed that view, praising the move toward low load testing. Jeremy Townsend, a senior vice president at CLEAResult, highlighted the broader industry shift.

Ruby sets a new standard for what high performance power supplies can achieve, including efficiency at low load. We expect Ruby to help set the pace for what manufacturers will be working toward heading into 2027.

This is not the first time Sea Sonic has led the certification program. The company launched the first certified unit back in 2005 with the SS 400HT, followed by the first Gold rating in 2008. The debut of the RX 1600 establishes 3 major efficiency milestones for the brand and provides system builders with an elite power solution for next generation hardware.
