Sennheiser has launched the Momentum True Wireless 5, bringing easily replaceable batteries to flagship wireless earbuds. The new design lets users swap out internal power cells in both the earbuds and the charging case using an included tool. The earbuds will hit retail shelves at a price of $299.95.
Battery degradation has long been the primary killer of wireless earbuds. Sennheiser is tackling this problem directly. The retail box includes a specialized screwdriver designed to open the earbud shells and the case without damaging internal electronics. Each earbud houses a 72 mAh lithium ion cell, while the charging case holds a 760 mAh pack. This setup allows owners to replace depleted cells at home rather than throwing the entire product away.
Playback time sees a major jump over previous hardware generations. The earbuds deliver up to 12 hours of continuous audio with active noise cancellation turned off, reaching up to 40 hours total when recharging through the case. An 8 minute quick charge provides 1 full hour of playback. Powering the case works through a USB Type C port or standard Qi wireless charging pads.
Audio reproduction relies on 7 mm TrueResponse dynamic drivers. Sennheiser is among the first audio manufacturers to deploy Bluetooth 6.0 in consumer hardware, alongside Snapdragon Sound and aptX Lossless support for uncompressed audio streaming. The earbuds also include Dolby Atmos spatial audio with interactive head tracking, upgraded adaptive hybrid noise cancellation, and bone conduction sensors to isolate voice calls from background noise.
The exterior housing features a new rounded shape that removes traditional silicone wingtips for a cleaner fit. An IP54 rating provides protection against dust and water splashes during daily use. Sennheiser offers the earbuds in 5 color options including black, beige, burgundy, brown, and blue.
