Apple has introduced the iPhone Duo, marking its first entry into the foldable smartphone market. The device combines a 5.4 inch outer screen with an expansive 7.6 inch inner display powered by the new A20 Pro silicon. Starting at $1999 in star white and night sky, it brings multitasking and redesigned cameras to the iOS ecosystem.
During the official product presentation in Cupertino, Apple detailed how the folding mechanism reshapes daily mobile workflows. John Ternus emphasized that hardware and software integration is central to the project.
With the largest display ever on iPhone that still fits easily in your pocket, combined with the power of A20 Pro, iPhone Duo helps you stay more immersed and productive wherever you go, whether you are enjoying content, multitasking across apps, or gaming.
The hardware balances pocket space with screen real estate. When folded shut, the 5.4 inch Super Retina XDR cover screen gives users 90% of the display area found on standard flagship models. Unfolding the device reveals a 7.6 inch display treated with a matte nano texture coating to cut reflections and obscure the center crease. Both panels reach 3000 nits of outdoor brightness. The underlying hinge uses over 100 parts and magnetic guides to hold the surface flat, while grade 5 titanium and Ceramic Shield 2 provide structural stiffness and 3x better scratch protection.
Photography takes advantage of the folding form factor. The rear array features a 48MP Fusion main sensor with sensor shift optical stabilization and an integrated 2x telephoto crop, alongside a 48MP ultra wide lens. Because the phone has 2 displays, users can frame high resolution rear selfies using Duo Preview on the cover screen. A feature called Smart Take uses on device intelligence to snap group photos automatically when everyone poses. Video creators can capture 4K footage at 120 frames per second in Dolby Vision without needing a tripod, since the chassis props itself up on flat surfaces.
Under the hood, the A20 Pro processor is built on a 2 nanometer architecture. It integrates a 6 core CPU that runs 20% faster than previous chips and a 7 core GPU delivering a 40% graphics boost. A dual 16 core neural engine handles local artificial intelligence queries for Siri AI. To keep heat under control during heavy gaming or Split View multitasking, Apple connected the chip directly to a custom vapor chamber. Power comes from a split dual battery setup that offers up to 31 hours of video on the main screen and up to 44 hours on the cover display. Plugged into a fast charger, it hits 50% capacity in 20 minutes.
On the software side, iOS 27 moves interface controls to the edges of the display to preserve vertical workspace. Split View lets users run 2 applications side by side, and StandBy mode now activates on flat surfaces even without a charging cable attached. Physical SIM trays have been removed entirely in favor of global eSIM technology. The iPhone Duo enters the market at $1999 for the 256GB base configuration, with higher storage options reaching 2TB.
