Panasonic has introduced the TOUGHBOOK FZ 34, a rugged 2 in 1 laptop built for demanding field work. Powered by an Intel Core Ultra 5 335 processor, it stands as the first model in the TOUGHBOOK lineup to meet Microsoft Copilot Plus PC standards for local AI compute power. According to the official company announcement in Japan, the hardware officially hits the market in October.
The machine uses a detachable form factor that allows the 12.4 inch display to operate independently as a standalone tablet. Weighing 1.4 kilograms in tablet mode, the screen pushes 1000 nits of brightness to keep text and schematics readable under direct sunlight. Field workers can navigate the 1920x1280 resolution touchscreen while wearing thick work gloves. For video calls and field documentation, the chassis includes a 5MP infrared camera with facial recognition on the front and a 13MP camera on the rear.
Physical connectivity on the base unit covers a massive range of modern and legacy standards. You get 2 Thunderbolt 4 ports, 2 USB A 5Gbps ports, 1 USB A 480Mbps port, 2 1GbE RJ45 ethernet jacks, 1 HDMI port, 1 SD UHS I card reader, 1 serial COM port, and a 3.5mm audio jack. Around back, 3 modular expansion areas allow workers to slot in hardware options such as barcode scanners, smart card readers, extra input ports, or a secondary battery pack. Wireless connections support fast Wi Fi 7 alongside optional 5G cellular modems.
Durability remains the core focus of the build. The chassis holds an IP65 rating against dust and water intrusion, alongside MIL STD 810H certification for drop and vibration resistance. Panasonic tested the hardware to run reliably in temperatures ranging from 10 degrees below zero up to 50 degrees Celsius. Internal power comes from a standard 39.3Whr battery pack built to sustain daily operations away from standard wall outlets.
