Sony has revealed 2 new entries in its gaming audio lineup, the PlayStation Pulse and the Pulse Edge wireless headsets. Both models pack custom planar magnetic drivers alongside PlayStation Link connectivity for low latency audio on PS5 consoles, PC, and mobile hardware. However, Sony has not yet confirmed retail pricing or exact launch dates.
According to the official announcement from Sony, these headsets expand the planar magnetic audio technology first introduced in earlier PULSE hardware. The standard PlayStation Pulse uses 4 magnets per driver unit to deliver clear sound separation, making it easier for players to track directional cues like footsteps and reloads in game. The higher tier Pulse Edge doubles that internal design with 8 magnets per driver, producing deeper low frequencies while preserving spatial precision.
Both models arrive in White and Midnight Black color options, featuring swivel earcups that rotate flat for easier travel. In the box, Sony includes a PlayStation Link USB Type C adapter for lossless connectivity across PS5, PlayStation Portal, Mac, and PC. Standard Bluetooth connectivity is also built in, allowing players to connect to mobile devices simultaneously.
The Pulse Edge introduces several exclusive upgrades aimed at competitive players. It adds active noise cancellation to silence background room distractions. For voice communication, the headset features a detachable boom microphone along with a secondary hidden microphone. Both microphones use AI enhanced noise rejection to filter out ambient room sound.
Players also get physical controls on the headset for volume and real time game to chat audio balance. The hardware includes a 3.5 millimeter audio jack for wired setups and comes with a dedicated hard shell storage case. Sony plans to release the standard PlayStation Pulse in select regions in time for the holiday shopping season, with the flagship Pulse Edge arriving in early 2027.
