Xiaomi has revealed the design of the Xiaomi 18 Fold, introducing what it calls a medium fold form factor. The device pairs a 5.38 inch outer display with a 7.58 inch main screen, running on the new Xuanjie O3 AI processor developed jointly with Leica. Full pricing and regional availability will be confirmed during the upcoming autumn launch event.
Foldable phones have spent 7 years trying to balance pocket comfort with large screen utility. Xiaomi president Lu Weibing pointed out on Weibo that standard book style foldables remain too bulky for daily single hand use, while vertical flip phones sacrifice flagship performance. The Xiaomi 18 Fold aims to solve this dilemma with folded dimensions comparable to a passport. It weighs less than any previous large foldable from the brand.
Lu emphasized that this release is not just an experimental addition to the numeric lineup, but the premier flagship of the entire series.
I believe what it represents is not just a new foldable form factor, but the mainstream choice for the next generation of foldables.
Official preview video shows the phone sporting a vibrant red casing. Across the upper rear panel sits a horizontal camera visor housing 3 individual lenses and an LED flash. The optical hardware continues the ongoing collaboration with Leica to ensure top tier photography performance. Inside, the unfolded 7.58 inch panel uses a revised aspect ratio to improve split screen productivity. The folding mechanism itself relies on an updated Dragon Bone hinge engineered to reduce screen creasing and improve durability.
The device serves as the launch vehicle for the custom Xuanjie O3 AI flagship processor. Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun confirmed that the phone runs on the new HyperOS 4 operating system alongside the MiMo on device AI model to handle complex machine learning tasks locally. During the same presentation, Xiaomi will also launch the Pad 9 Pro Max tablet as well as the Pengcheng N70 Pro, N70 Max, and N90 Max hardware lines.
