ASUS has released the ROG XBOX Ally X20, marking the 20 year milestone of its Republic of Gamers division with an AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme processor and a 7.4 inch OLED screen. The handheld features a translucent black chassis with gold internal accents and upgraded magnetic joystick hardware. The standalone unit retails for $1299, with an extended accessory package priced at $2499.
The exterior shell uses translucent black plastics that reveal internal gold structures and updated cooling components. Analog sticks use magnetic TMR sensors that limit stick drift risks and maintain a 3% dead zone without 4 axis snapping. The directional pad switches between 4 way and 8 way operation without tools. Face buttons press flush against the casing with lighter activation pressure, while impulse triggers provide direct vibration feedback.
Airflow routes through 3 dedicated channels directing air behind the display, through heatsink fins, and straight to the processor. Updated fans use fewer blades with larger diameters to raise airflow by 20% across an 11% larger fin surface area. The 7.4 inch Nebula HDR OLED panel supports variable refresh rate tech to prevent visual tearing during frame drops. Display settings offer 2 profiles labeled HDR Native for creator accuracy and HDR Vivid for boosted saturation.
Armoury Crate Special Edition updates the interface scaling for clearer reading across game menus. A feature named Default Game Profile 2.0 lets players save custom wattage profiles to individual game files with 1 click. Users can also reassign the Command Center, Library, and Action physical buttons. Travel Mode restricts charging input to 65W for compatibility with airplane and train electrical outlets, engaging automatically when activating Airplane Mode. An opt in preview channel delivers early software updates to testers before general distribution.
The standalone XBOX Ally X20 costs $1299, selling alongside the standard model at $599 and the Ally X at $999. ASUS also sells a $2499 bundle that includes the console, a custom dbrand Killswitch protective case, and a Pelican Protector case. This package includes ROG XREAL R1 Edition 20 AR glasses, which project a 171 inch virtual screen at 4 meters. The glasses feature Micro OLED panels running at 240Hz with a 0.01ms response time and a 57 degree field of view.
