Rockstar Games cofounder Dan Houser is deliberately avoiding promotional footage for Grand Theft Auto 6 to keep his current creative work unbiased. The veteran writer left his former studio in 2020 to build Absurd Ventures, a new company currently producing 2 distinct games. His goal is to build original fictional worlds without subconscious influence from his previous blockbuster franchise.
Houser confirmed his stance during an interview with variety, explaining that outside media can easily disrupt original writing. He maintains a media blackout around major open world releases to clear his head of old design habits and creative formulas.
I have not watched GTA 6. I will try to keep avoiding it. I always try not to watch anything that could distract me or interfere with the creative process.
Absurd Ventures operates on the principle of finding unconventional concepts rather than repeating past commercial successes. Houser rarely plays modern open world titles for the exact same reason, choosing to distance himself from the narrative structures he helped popularize across 2 decades of industry work.
Absurd Ventures is currently building 2 major titles. The first project is an open world comedy centered on character memory and narrative humor. The second title focuses on a disastrous game production cycle and an artificial intelligence system that gains self awareness. Both projects represent an effort to establish fresh entertainment properties rather than relying on established industry blueprints.
