An independent developer has ported the newly released Googlebook OS to Apple Silicon Mac hardware using multiple AI coding models. The project packages the ARM version of the operating system into a native virtual machine application with hardware graphics acceleration. Installation files and setup instructions are now available publicly on GitHub.
The developer built the installation automation using OpenAI GPT 6 Astra, DeepSeek 4.1 Flash, and Anthropic Claude Opus 5.5. The resulting script relies on the macOS Hypervisor Framework to execute the ARM build of Googlebook OS directly on Apple chips. The automated process pulls the official recovery image from Dell servers and downloads the Cuttlefish virtual device from Google servers. It compiles these files into a standalone macOS software package named Googlebook VM.app.
Running the virtual machine requires an Apple Silicon Mac with at least 16 GB of memory and 60 GB of available disk storage. Users must also install Xcode Command Line Tools alongside Android SDK and NDK packages. The port is currently unfinished and carries several technical restrictions. Bluetooth does not function, the virtual TPM process consumes background CPU power constantly, and the display output is capped at 60 Hz. Core operating system features remain accessible for testing without dedicated Googlebook hardware.
