Epic Games has released a rebuilt version of the Epic Games Launcher in early preview, prioritizing faster responsiveness and lower system resource usage. The update introduces official Linux compatibility alongside Windows and macOS, while restructuring the storefront with unified game pages and live download tracking. The client is available as an optional preview build while development continues on competitive and developer tools.
Epic Games redesigned the software architecture to cut cold startup times and eliminate background system strain. The interface lets users merge separate PC game libraries into 1 display, offering search filters that update as you type. A revamped download manager provides real time tracking for read, write, and network transfer speeds across active and queued installations. Integrated voice chat also functions across Fortnite, the desktop launcher, and the mobile Epic Games application.
Linux support marks a first for the official client. Epic Games is currently rebuilding Easy Anti Cheat in direct coordination with Linux distribution maintainers. The goal is to bring Fortnite to Linux natively through the launcher once verification is complete. The company confirmed that these anti cheat upgrades will be shared with other game developers aiming to support Linux players.
The launcher redesign coincides with broader adjustments in internal software production. Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney stated on social media that the company is reallocating development teams to adopt artificial intelligence tools across internal pipelines and the Unreal Engine ecosystem.
We have a huge pivot underway here at Epic, moving developers around to retool for maximum AI acceleration.

The aim isn't to do the same stuff with fewer people, but to enable everyone here to build MORE and BETTER stuff, and to bring the benefits to all teams using Unreal.
The preview client remains optional for now. Epic Games advises tournament players and developers working on active Unreal projects to stay on the legacy client until the preview reaches feature parity.
