Garmin Approach S72 Debuts with ECG Sensor and Advanced Golf Metrics

Garmin has launched the Approach S72, a golf smartwatch with an integrated ECG sensor, a titanium bezel, and an AMOLED display. The device tracks wrist rotation, swing tempo, and matches heart rate spikes against performance on specific holes. Available in 43 mm and 47 mm case sizes, the watch retails in the United States for $799.

Buyers can choose between 43 mm and 47 mm chassis options. Both versions feature an AMOLED display protected by sapphire crystal and framed with a titanium bezel. A ComfortFit fabric strap ships standard with the device. An integrated LED flashlight sits directly on the casing for low light visibility. Battery runtimes reach up to 10 days in standard smartwatch mode and provide roughly 15 hours of continuous operation during active GPS golf sessions.

Internal motion sensors calculate wrist speed, swing length, and wrist rotation to give players immediate feedback on their swing mechanics. The software lets users correlate heart rate shifts with their scorecards to evaluate how physical stress affects shot accuracy. Garmin includes preloaded maps for more than 43,000 golf courses worldwide. Software tools include the Virtual Caddie assistant, PlaysLike distance adjustments that factor in elevation and wind, and aerial imagery showing green contours.

The watch records an ECG to detect signs of atrial fibrillation alongside sensors for blood oxygen saturation, heart rate variability, and sleep quality. An integrated microphone and speaker enable direct voice commands and phone calls from the wrist. Daily utility features include multiband GPS, offline Spotify playback, and contactless transactions through Garmin Pay.
