Google Launches Playground Web Platform to Generate Games from Text

Google has launched Playground, an experimental web platform that builds playable browser games directly from text prompts without coding. The tool combines multiple generative models to output 2D and 3D projects for smartphones and personal computers. Access is currently rolling out in the United States as a free service, with advanced creation settings locked behind a Google One subscription.

Google connects Gemini, Nano Banana, and Lyria models with a dedicated game development engine to power the service. Users type a project concept into a chat prompt, then select a 2D or 3D visual presentation alongside a single player or multiplayer setup. Creators can modify the finished project by typing follow up commands to adjust physics behaviors, gameplay rules, character designs, and level environments.

Playground games run directly in standard web browsers across mobile devices and desktop computers. Creators can keep their projects private, generate a direct link for friends, or publish them to the public Playground Explore gallery. The platform integrates Google Play Games profiles to support competitive leaderboards and community ratings. All public titles pass through automated policy checks, with flagged projects moving to secondary moderation queues. Free tier accounts can build basic games immediately, while premium customization tools require an active Google One membership.
