Google Releases SynthID Detector Globally to Identify AI Generated Media

Google has expanded public access to its SynthID Detector, releasing the tool globally in English. The application allows users to check whether images, video, or audio files were created using AI systems from Google and partner companies. The release follows earlier testing phases that were limited to media professionals.

The system relies on imperceptible digital watermarks embedded directly into multimedia files. Google reports that the technology has tagged over 180 billion images and videos alongside 240,000 years of audio content. The detector currently recognizes watermarks generated by Google, OpenAI, NVIDIA, and Kakao, with integration for Apple systems arriving in a future update.

The standalone detection portal works alongside verification tools already operating inside Google Search, Chrome, and the Gemini application. Google confirms that these integrated verification systems process over 1,000,000 media queries daily. The wider rollout gives general users direct access to the same detection methods previously reserved for newsrooms and fact checking organizations.

You can try the SynthID Detector now directly on Synthid website.
