Google has introduced the Gemini agent, an enterprise AI system capable of finishing complex workplace assignments without direct human oversight. The tool plans multi stage workflows, calls external software, and continues executing tasks in the cloud after users shut down their computers. It integrates directly across Google Workspace alongside external software platforms like Slack and Salesforce.
Users assign a broad goal, leaving the agent to map out the individual steps. The system can assemble complete slide presentations from project files, organize team meetings by checking attendee calendars, and draft email threads to finalize schedules. Beyond document production, it writes and executes software code and generates media assets. For long operations that run for days, the agent creates temporary sub agents to handle separate workloads simultaneously. Google decoupled the software from a single neural network, allowing the system to route tasks between Gemini and Anthropic Claude based on operational requirements.
The system relies on 4 distinct memory layers to retain user context across projects. Session memory manages active tasks, semantic memory extracts reference data from shared files, procedural memory stores execution workflows, and episodic memory tracks previous agent decisions. This structure removes the need to re enter instructions for recurring assignments.
The agent operates within Gmail, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Chat, and Google Calendar. It connects to external enterprise platforms including Microsoft 365, Slack, Confluence, Jira, ServiceNow, and Salesforce. Developers can manage the agent through command line tools, standard APIs, and the Model Context Protocol. Companies can deploy virtual workers with individual Workspace accounts, providing them with dedicated email inboxes and calendar access while restricting their visibility strictly to team shared files.
