HUAWEI Mate 90 Pro Max Launches with Modular Zoom Camera and Tandem OLED Screen

HUAWEI has officially unveiled the Mate 90 Pro Max, introducing a flagship platform built on a 6.9 inch Tandem OLED screen and proprietary Kirin 9050 silicon. The premium Collector's Edition model stands out by supporting an external 10x optical zoom camera attachment with a 1 inch sensor. The new flagship is now available in China starting at 9499 yuan, while international launch plans remain unannounced.

The device comes in 2 physical builds. The base model blends titanium alloy, aviation grade aluminum, and microcrystalline glass, while the Collector's Edition opts for a polished titanium exterior. Both variants carry IP68 and IP69 ratings for extreme water and dust resistance. Up front, the 6.9 inch flat panel uses a dual layer RGB structure that cuts power consumption by 39% compared to traditional single layer displays. Screen brightness reaches 2200 nits across the entire panel, with localized peaks hitting 6000 nits at 20% APL and 12000 nits at 1% APL. The panel adjusts refresh rates dynamically from 1 to 120 Hz and relies on 1440 Hz PWM dimming for eye comfort.

HUAWEI splits processing duties between 2 chips. The standard 12GB RAM and 512GB storage model runs on the Kirin 9050. Stepping up to the 16GB memory tier or choosing the Collector's Edition gets you the faster Kirin 9050 Pro. Both variations run on HarmonyOS 7. Power is supplied by a large 6800 mAh battery supporting 100W wired and 80W wireless fast charging. Network hardware includes Wi Fi 7+, 5.5G connectivity, and two way satellite communication via BeiDou and Tiantong networks. The handset supports 2 physical SIM cards and 2 eSIM profiles, keeping up to 3 lines active on standby simultaneously.

The standard rear imaging setup features 3 sensors. The primary 50 MP shooter uses a 1/1.28 inch SmartSens SC595XS sensor with optical image stabilization and a physical variable aperture ranging from f/1.4 to 4.0. It works alongside a 40 MP ultrawide camera and a 200 MP periscope telephoto unit that delivers 4x optical zoom and 8x hybrid zoom. On the Collector's Edition, the rear camera ring doubles as a physical mount. This connects to the optional Ruiying Z10 camera module, giving mobile photographers a dedicated 1 inch sensor with 10x optical zoom.

Pricing for the standard Mate 90 Pro Max begins at 9499 yuan (roughly $1417) for 12GB of RAM with 512GB of storage, moving to 9999 yuan (around $1491) for the 16/512GB configuration. The Collector's Edition starts at 10999 yuan ($1640) for 16/512GB and reaches 12999 yuan ($1939) for the 1TB edition. The add on Ruiying Z10 camera attachment costs 5999 yuan ($895) on its own, and a SmallRig teleconverter accessory package is priced at 1799 yuan ($268).
