Nintendo Switch Emulator Runs on Xbox Series X Without Console Modification

An independent developer has managed to run Nintendo Switch software directly on the Xbox Series X without jailbreaking the console operating system. Video demonstrations show 3 major titles including Super Mario Odyssey, Super Mario Wonder, and Metroid Prime Beyond running at stable frame rates on Microsoft hardware. However, setting up the software requires access to a paid Microsoft developer account.

A user known as FoxHitoriki shared footage of the setup on X without releasing public installation files. The project appears to be NXbox, a modified adaptation of the Eden emulator. The application translates original Switch graphics calls directly into the native rendering instructions of the Xbox console. Because the software operates inside the official Xbox Developer Mode, the machine runs the code in an isolated sandbox without triggering security flags or hardware bans.

Developer Mode provides an official environment for running unsigned universal Windows applications on retail hardware. Microsoft opens this feature to any user who registers through its partner portal and pays an activation fee. This requirement creates a monetary barrier that prevents widespread adoption by casual players. While the technical demonstration proves the capability of the hardware, distribution of the emulator remains limited due to platform policies and digital rights restrictions.
