Pimax has announced 2 new hardware releases designed to compete directly with Valve hardware platforms. The Crystal Pro VR headset targets standalone and tethered gaming alongside the Spation compact PC built around high performance desktop silicon. Preorders for the headset start at $1399 ahead of shipments next year, while pricing for the mini PC remains unannounced.
Pimax Crystal Pro VR Headset Specifications
The Crystal Pro headset runs on the Snapdragon XR2 Gen 1 processor and features QD LCD panels delivering 2880x2880 pixels per eye. Visuals run at a 120 Hz refresh rate with a 110 degree field of view. To reduce physical strain on the face of the user, Pimax removed the internal battery entirely. The device relies on an external 16000 mAh battery pack instead. Connectivity options include wired DisplayPort 1.4a video input or wireless streaming via an included Wi Fi adapter. Buyers can also upgrade to a third generation 60G AirLink wireless module with 2 antennas to stream uncompressed video from a PC.
Pimax Spation Compact Gaming PC Features
Pimax designed the Spation desktop as a direct alternative to the Steam Machine format. The standard configuration packs an AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D processor alongside either a Radeon RX 9070 XT or a GeForce RTX 5070 Ti graphics card. The interior houses 32GB of DDR5 memory, a 1TB solid state drive, and a 1000W SFX power supply. Physical ports include 2 DisplayPort 2.1 outputs, 1 HDMI 2.1 jack, 2 USB C ports, 6 USB A connections, and a 2.5 Gbps Ethernet port. Wireless communication supports Wi Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4. The front chassis features an LED accent strip, 2 USB ports, and a power switch. Pimax also plans to sell a barebones DIY edition where users supply their own graphics card and storage.
Pimax has opened preorders for the Crystal Pro headset with hardware deliveries scheduled to begin next year. The base package containing the headset and the 16000 mAh external battery sells for $1399. Bundling the system with the 60G AirLink wireless streaming module raises the price to $1899. Pimax has not yet revealed the final retail price or shipping window for the Spation gaming desktop.
