Steam Hardware Survey Shows 32GB RAM and RTX 5070 Taking Top Market Spots

Valve has published its latest Steam hardware survey, confirming that 32GB has officially overtaken 16GB as the primary memory configuration for PC gamers. The data also reveals strong growth for the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070, which now ranks as the single most common graphics card on the platform. The report shows players continuing to migrate toward 1440p displays and larger storage setups.

Steam users are actively upgrading system memory to keep up with modern software requirements. The 32GB configuration climbed by 4.77% to capture 42.22% of total users, moving past 16GB for the first time in survey history. In comparison, 16GB setups fell by 3.38% down to 37.82%. Smaller memory tiers continue to fade from the gaming space, with 8GB dropping to 6.47% and 4GB systems sitting at just 1.15%.

Nvidia holds 75.97% of the overall discrete graphics share on the platform, compared to 16.67% for AMD and 7.01% for Intel. The standalone standout this cycle is the desktop GeForce RTX 5070, which gained 2.30% to become the most popular individual graphics card at 5.86%. Other current generation cards showed steady gains as well. The RTX 5060 Ti grew by 1.46%, and the RTX 5080 gained 0.27%, while competing AMD cards saw minor declines across the board.

Display preferences show players moving toward higher pixel densities. Standard 1080p resolution (1920x1080) dropped by 2.61% to 47.91%, while 1440p (2560x1440) jumped by 5.18% to reach 27.04% of all surveyed systems. Ultra high resolution 4K gaming at 3840x2160 saw a minor dip, settling at 4.79%.

Demographic data highlights major movement in language preferences. Simplified Chinese usage surged by 7.42% to reach 31.39%, closing the gap with English, which fell by 4.05% to 34.20%. Storage setups are expanding to match larger installation sizes. Total storage space exceeding 1TB accounts for 53.30% of systems, with machines offering more than 4TB of free drive space climbing to 7.28%.
