Crystal Dynamics and Amazon Game Studios have removed Denuvo anti tamper DRM from the Steam page for Tomb Raider Legacy of Atlantis. The decision comes roughly 4.5 months before the game hits digital storefronts, reversing the typical industry practice of dropping anti piracy software only after launch. The Unreal Engine 5 title remains on track for its scheduled 2027 release window across PC and current generation consoles.
Steam storefront listings recently scrubbed all references to Denuvo after originally adding the DRM alongside preorders. Publishers usually keep anti tamper tools active through a game release and only strip them out years later. Dropping the software months ahead of launch points to shifting security calculations within Amazon Game Studios.
Denuvo parent company Irdeto has faced increasing pressure from crackers using Windows hypervisor tools to bypass system checks. The security firm also launched federal legal action against a prominent hacker known as voices38 who is accused of cracking at least 26 protected games. Irdeto is currently seeking user identification data through Reddit Discord and Steam subpoenas to halt further security breaches.
Tomb Raider Legacy of Atlantis serves as a ground up reimagining of the original 1996 classic. Co developers Crystal Dynamics and Flying Wild Hog are building the project on Unreal Engine 5, sending protagonist Lara Croft through updated environments in Peru Greece and Egypt. The game is scheduled to launch across PC, PS5, Xbox Series, and Nintendo Switch 2.
