Ubisoft Forms Motherbrain Division to Integrate Generative AI Across All Studios

Ubisoft is shifting from small scale artificial intelligence experiments to full studio integration with a dedicated internal division called Motherbrain. Led by company veteran Xavier Manzanares, the unit will build generative AI tools to be deployed across every active video game project. However, the aggressive push comes as the publisher continues internal budget cuts across its global workforce.

According to a report from Tom Henderson at Insider Gaming, Ubisoft leadership now ranks Motherbrain alongside its primary creative houses and online services. Xavier Manzanares brings direct experience to the role after previously managing projects like Mario + Rabbids along with experimental initiatives including Teammates and Neo NPC. His team is tasked with turning fragmented software experiments into 1 unified technology platform for all company developers.

Ubisoft developers have already seen artificial intelligence enter various phases of production. Staff members revealed that during the most recent internal company conference, presentations focusing on machine learning dominated the schedule so heavily that standard game development talks were rare exceptions. Management aims to insert these generative tools into as many upcoming projects as possible to speed up asset creation.

The decision to mandate artificial intelligence across all studios aligns with ongoing cost reduction measures at the company. Video game publishers across the sector are seeking methods to reduce ballooning production budgets while maintaining premium retail price points for new releases. Ubisoft views automated content generation as a primary method to manage development overhead during a turbulent financial period.
