According to a Weibo post by a leaker known as "Mobile phone chip expert," the upcoming chipset will feature a MediaTek T90 5G modem. This modem is not currently listed among MediaTek's official products, suggesting it's a new, unreleased model.
Xiaomi's goal with this pairing might be to enhance the chipset's wireless capabilities and compete with Qualcomm's Snapdragon X80 5G modem. MediaTek has recently demonstrated its technological prowess with the Dimensity 9400, its first chip mass-produced on TSMC's second-generation 3nm process.
It's speculated that MediaTek might utilize TSMC's advanced 3nm lithography for the T90 modem, but details remain scarce. The success of this partnership could be crucial for Xiaomi's independence from Qualcomm and other suppliers, particularly given the potential for trade sanctions.
