Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Takes Gaming World by Storm with Unprecedented Metacritic Score

Alright, listen to this. There is a new French role-playing game called Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 that was released last week, and it has absolutely taken the gaming world by storm! Even though there was mammoth competition in the form of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered being launched at the same time, this game is becoming a massive success – and not just financially.

A Metacritic User Rating That Left Everyone Speechless

The actual buzz is over its Metacritic user score. Right now, it stands at a whopping 9.7! More than 4040 gamers have had their say, and they obviously did not spare any words in offering praise. For context, some of the best-loved games of all time have lower community scores on the platform. Take Heroes of Might and Magic III with a 9.3, or Half-Life 2 with a 9.1. Clair Obscur manages to top both those all-time favorites somehow.

Naturally, the men responsible for Expedition 33 are supposedly completely perplexed by such a reception.

Now, there's a tiny caveat of context to add. Very occasionally, smaller, niche Metacritic releases receive flawless 10s and 9s from an ardent section of early enthusiasts, and that can artificially inflate the average. So, then, by all means, 9.7 is amazing and statistically greater than many giants, but to crown it the definitive "king" of the aggregator technically necessitates a tiny asterisk.

Just a quick reminder: Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 released on April 24th and on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series consoles. Seems well worth checking out if you enjoy RPGs.
