Borderlands 4 Price Tag: Could it Reach $80
It seems the next trip to Pandora (or wherever Borderlands 4 heads) might cost a bit more than we're used to. The gaming community has been in an uproar since Nintendo decided to place an $80 price tag on Mario Kart World, and now the other big guns are seriously considering doing the same.
What Randy Pitchford is Saying About Borderlands 4 Price
At PAX East, the head cheese of Gearbox Entertainment, Randy Pitchford, was cornered about how much Borderlands 4 is going to cost us. His answer. Well, it looks like they're still working on the numbers and wrestling with the question.
"Honestly, I don't know," Pitchford replied. He painted a delicate picture. On the one hand, there's the need to sell as many copies as possible, and everyone knows gamers are very price-sensitive. Nobody *wants* to charge more.
But then there is the flip side of the coin. "Production costs are rising," Pitchford said, referring to such matters as the expense of creating physical copies to print. And here's the worst part: "Borderlands 4 has a budget greater than twice the size of Borderlands 3. Well more than twice." Yikes. That is a lot of cash.
Are We Discussing an $80 Borderlands 4
Pitchford wouldn't make a definite yes or no, but he did release a fairly strong indication. He mentioned that Gearbox would quite possibly copy Nintendo and Microsoft's playbook, i.e., an $80 price tag is highly in consideration. He went so far as to mention that fans might need to get their heads in the right place for that possibility.
The best part. Pre-orders for the shooter appear to be going live "soon," so we won't be left hanging for long.
Save the date: Borderlands 4 releases September 12th on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series. Fingers crossed our wallets are ready.
