Cherry Announces New Inductive Switches and Expands MX Mechanical Family
Cherry, whose name is inextricably linked with quality switches, just shared some thrilling news at Computex 2025. They've announced brand-new inductive switches and introduced three new members into their popular MX mechanical switch family. Cherry appears to be doubling its bets on making our typing experiences stronger, energy-efficient, and pleasingly tactile.
Meet Cherry IK: A New Era of Inductive Switching
The gem of the lineup is, naturally, the Cherry IK model. This is Cherry's first foray into inductive switch technology. What does this translate to. Well, these switches utilize a contactless type of actuation. Less wear and tear on the switches physically, and perhaps even better accuracy over the long term. Sounds neat, right.
There is more to the Cherry IK, though, than its contactlessness:
- It has RGB lighting support, so your keyboard will still glow.
- You can adjust the trigger point – how far you need to press the key to get a response.
- Cherry says these inductive switches are incredibly power-efficient. They report consuming 50% less power than magnetic switches and a mere 5% of what Hall effect switches use.
- They're designed to last, with a reported lifespan of more than one million clicks.
If you're eagerly anticipating trying these out, you'll have to wait awhile. Commercial availability of Cherry IK switches is expected in fall 2025.
Fresh Flavors in the MX Mechanical Family
Cherry isn't giving up its mechanical roots. They also released three new additions to the fan favorite MX switch family:
- MX Honey: Looking for a quiet but palpable experience. MX Honey is a member of the MX2A family and features a modified spring that's factory-lubed to provide a silent and gliding experience.
- MX Blossom: Maybe you prefer a feather-light touch, and the MX Blossom is your perfect switch. It's the lightest switch in Cherry's lineup, of linear design that only requires 35 centinewtons of force to register. Also of the MX2A series, it's for those who prefer no resistance.
- MX Falcon: For those that need a seriously noticeable tactile feedback, the MX Falcon is their answer. Cherry says they were inspired by the look of classic typewriters and even adds their very first extended stem design to their family for that unique experience.
MX enthusiasts, rejoice – these three new switches will start appearing on keyboards this June. Next, Cherry will make them available individually as kits for DIYers.
Obviously, Cherry is pushing the boundaries of keyboard technology. Whether you're interested in the innovative inductive IK switches or the nuanced touch of the new MX options, there's something new on the cards for all keyboard aficionados.
