Mario Kart World: Reverse Tracks Hinted for New Nintendo Switch 2 Era
Whispers are getting louder that the forthcoming "Mario Kart World" could dump the classic mirror mode in favor of something even much more confusing: a full outright reverse track mode. What has sparked such speculation. Certainly fans with sharp eyes (thank you NintendoSoup) noticed something really, really interesting in a recent Japanese commercial. There was the familiar footage of the Mario Bros. Circuit, and on the mini-map. Completely flipped. Not just a mirror, but a layout running in the opposite direction.
Now, one might think it might have to do with a mode like Knockout Tour, perhaps intended in versus. But no indicators of such things were showing on the UI of the commercial. Thus, many assume that indeed, we might have caught an early glimpse of an essential gameplay mechanic: racing routes in reverse.
A Landmark Entry for Nintendo Switch 2
This isn't just another sequel, though; this is shaping up into a landmark entry for the new Nintendo Switch 2. Alongside the announcement of the next-gen console, this game was touted to be one of the major system sellers. What's remarkable, though, is just how long the game has been cooking-cooking. Recently revealed is that development began way back when the original Switch launched. That is a boatload of development time, which suggests some very lofty aspirations.
Evolving the Beloved Formula
The aim: to develop the well-loved Mario Kart formula. After the polished perfection of "Mario Kart 8 Deluxe," it seems Nintendo has taken a quite "open-ended" approach to Mario Kart World. Reverse track mode would certainly fit in with that-they remain just adding a new level of challenge and replayability.
Mark Your Calendar
It won't be a long wait. Mario Kart World salirán here on June 5 towards Nintendo Switch 2 and will be immediately launched worldwide on the same date with the new console (save for a few exceptions). So get ready to learn anew, tracks forward and, most probably, backward.
