Take-Two's Nintendo Switch 2 Ambitions: Major Titles & GTA VI Speculation

Take-Two CEO Discusses Nintendo Switch 2 Ambitions

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick served us a savory bite recently during their Q4 2025 earnings call, and that was on their ambitions for the new Nintendo Switch 2.

Record Support, With a Catch

Zelnick sounded very enthusiastic, stating that Take-Two is gearing up for what seems to be its biggest launch support in history for a Nintendo console. We are not dealing with lightweights here:

  • Borderlands 4
  • Civilization VII
  • WWE 2K 2025

That's a big lineup coming straight out of the blocks. That being said, Zelnick also suggested that doesn't automatically translate to every new Take-Two game popping up on the Switch 2. He discussed doing things on a "case-by-case basis" and trying to be "where the consumers are." What's interesting, however, is he also discussed "great catalog opportunities," which would suggest older, much-remembered games potentially getting a second lease of life on Nintendo's next machine.

"You know, we're launching four titles on Nintendo Switch 2, and that's, I think, a bigger slate of releases than we've ever made available previously with a new Nintendo platform. we would not necessarily launch all titles on all platforms. There are also great catalog opportunities." - Strauss Zelnick (quoted by Investing)

The Big Question What About Grand Theft Auto VI

Naturally, the moment "not every title" is spoken, most minds race to one game: Grand Theft Auto VI. Historically, Rockstar's flagship franchise has skipped Nintendo platforms. Would GTA VI be among those titles that won't get chopped for the Switch 2.

It's a tough decision. On the other hand, the sheer scale and potential technical demands of GTA VI (especially with AI and physics improvements) may prove too much for the Switch 2's advertised 8-core ARM Cortex-A78C processor, even if the console can play games like Cyberpunk 2077 and Star Wars Outlaws. In the meantime, can Take-Two afford to lose the biggest game in the world on what is predicted to be a record console.

Would Red Dead Redemption 2 Gallop onto Switch 2

Discussing catalog prospects, there have been whispers and rumors about a potential Nintendo Switch 2 version of the highly acclaimed Red Dead Redemption 2. There are even some online speculations that it's indeed in production, perhaps in parallel with an upgraded version on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S that would enhance visuals and performance.

If Rockstar is indeed trying to round out its release schedule, especially with GTA VI being pushed back to 2026, putting out Red Dead Redemption 2 to an entire new crowd on the Switch 2 (and giving current-gen console gamers an upgrade) is some sound reasoning. The game came out on last-gen hardware, which the Switch 2 will probably match at worst and exceed at best. Zelnick's comment about catalog titles does a lot to stoke this fire.

Patience is Key

So what does it all come down to. Take-Two is clearly bullish on the Nintendo Switch 2 and will surely be backing it. But they're also being savvy about which of their titles will be best for the platform. A GTA VI port is perhaps still a question mark, but the door definitely appears open for other major releases and older classic titles.

As with all these things, best to be healthy cynics unless it's confirmed, but all the signs are definitely there that there is a rosy future in store for Take-Two games on Nintendo's next giant.
