Elden Ring Movie Director Alex Garland Plays Game Seventh Time Shares Insights

Alex Garland, the head of the new Elden Ring movie, knows the game well. He's playing it for the seventh time. This shows how much he cares, as many who make movies from games don't know the games that well.

Alex Garland loves Elden Ring. He's done with it six times and now he's on his seventh. He uses things from the game, like calling spirits and NPCs to help fight. From playing a lot, Garland knows a lot about the game's big foes.

Talking about tough bosses, Garland said this:

"Ruddan was quite easy. I think so because if you bring your helpers soon, they fight him, lower his health a lot, and you just end it... The real tough one is Malenia."

He spoke about his hard times with Malenia, even now with a strong character and good gear: "I am on my seventh round. I've got better, gathered stuff, a great sword, all that. But I keep going back to this boss."

Garland also talked about beating hard bosses, linking it to his times with Dark Souls: "What I got from Dark Souls is that it's not about getting better. It's like repeated tries. You keep going, and then, the bosses fall."

The Elden Ring game came out in 2022. They said in May 2025 that they would make a movie, and A24 is making it. They haven’t told us much about the plot or who will be in it yet.
