Using AI in making games is a hot talk for many gamers, especially since game costs go up and short ways to make games worry them. Masahiro Sakurai, who made big Nintendo games like Super Smash Bros. and Kirby, has shared what he thinks about how AI could fit into making games.
The push for new fun in games and better looks is making game-making longer. While AI might help to cut these times down, not everyone agrees to use it. In a chat with ITmedia, Sakurai talked about the big tasks huge studios have with big projects, and how small groups find it hard to keep up.
AI draws people since it might make less work. Yet, many gamers fear that it may replace real people’s creative touch. The head of Nintendo, Shuntaro Furukawa, said before that they wouldnt use AI to make things in their own games, worried about who owns the art. Even so, Nintendo had to say no to claims of using AI for stuff like signs in Mario Kart World.
Sakurai thinks using AI might help make work less and not just make game bits. He feels AI might help with day-to-day tasks, like setting up plans, which might make making games smoother. He sees todays long time to make games as "too long and hard to keep doing."
Long waits to see how games are doing bug gamers. Like Metroid Prime 4 Beyond, told in 2017 with a now unclear 2025 launch, and GTA 6, also pushed back. While game makers need to find faster ways, Sakurai didnt have fast answers for these big issues in the chat.
Sakurai's next wait-for game, Kirby Air Riders, is also seen coming in 2025, adding to Nintendo titles that fans want to know more about.
