Nintendo Switch 2 Teardown First Look Internals NVIDIA Chip Joy-Con Details

Reports have surfaced that a blogger from the ProModding YouTube channel has already gotten her hands on the console to disassemble it, and she has posted a seventeen-minute video giving us what is purportedly our first real look into the inner workings of Nintendo's latest creation.

With some time, patience, and some right screwdrivers in hand, switching out a Switch 2 cannot seem to be too much of a task. She apparently struggled against the TV-sized screws with some covetous screws cleverly placed underneath a protective film to expose the back panel. And once inside, the following was said to be seen inside:

  • A cooling system featuring a compact fan and a copper heat pipe—good to keep running smoothly.
  • The main motherboard, with the real star being an NVIDIA GMLX30-A1 chip, which seems to take most of the internal real estate.
  • And, of course, the console battery.

The YouTuber also expressed some of her immediate opinions about the construction. On the one hand, the way the Joy-Con controllers snap onto the new Switch looks much more sturdy and secure than with the original. This improvement would be much welcomed by many.

Unfortunately, not all was said in good spirits. A weak point that was raised was the kickstand of the console, which feels a bit flimsy and could easily break if one was not careful. A little disappointing perhaps.

As far as reparability is concerned, the blogger did not pass a final verdict on the new Switch 2. iFixit and other repair specialists would most likely take that one up in detail very soon. But for now, we got ourselves an early and exciting look into the guts of Nintendo's next big thing.
