First look at Nothing Phone (3) Camera; Issues Found in Software

Just before its big reveal on July 1, Nothing has shared a sneak peek of the Phone (3)'s new telephoto lens and let out some first photos. These shots give us a close look at the hardware, but they have not fully won us over and hint at some problems with the phone's image software.

Camera Set-Up and First Photo Review

A fresh teaser shows the telephoto lens set in a corner, a sharp change in design from the big camera bump seen on the Nothing Phone (3a) Pro. With this teaser, Nothing's CEO Carl Pei showed off eight test shots from both the telephoto and wide-angle lenses.

Looking at these shots, a few issues pop up:

  • Strong HDR Use: The shots use heavy HDR, which makes them lack contrast.
  • Odd Lighting: The shadows feel too light and bright parts seem dull, making everything look flat and not real.
  • Warm Hues: Shots with the wide lens lean towards very warm hues.

Telephoto test pics seem shot under pro lights. This does not tell us much about how the camera handles real scenes. So far, Nothing hasn't shared shots from tough spots like low light, high-contrast spots, or with moving things.
