Ubisoft just rolled out a massive patch dubbed Rainbow Six Siege X, and it changing the game in a very big way. Not just the update; this is a major evolution of the game itself that is now available on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and even Amazon Luna.
The best part for those who have yet to know what it is like to experience Siege is that this update has made the game free to play. Yup. And new players are more than welcome to come into the action with a selection of Operators and try out modes like Unranked, Quick Match, and the hot new Dual Front, entirely free of charge. Of course, Ranked playlists, the Siege Cup, and many more Operators and cool cosmetics will cost you.
Speaking of wanting more, there are some ways you could go if you find yourself addicted:
- The Elite Edition gives access to all game modes, including Ranked and the Siege Cup, for $19.99; throw in 16 additional Operators.
- The Ultimate Edition is $39.99 and essentially includes everything in the Elite Edition plus access to a whopping 52 Operators immediately and the Disruptor Pack.
Siege X has a lot of fresh content and major upgrades; here's the rundown:
Prepare for the introduction of a completely new permanent 6v6 format, entitled Dual Front. The game flips the game in nature by combining Attackers and Defenders on the same team, while both have to capture enemy sectors while fiercely protecting their own. It's dynamic you can respawn, change Operators mid-game, and even tackle time-sensitive Neutral Sector objectives.
The game got an entirely new paint job. Expect improvement in lighting, new shadows, and improved resolution in graphics. Initially of five, classic 5v5 maps – Clubhouse, Chalet, Border, Bank, and Kafe – three of them will get the upgrade treatment every season.
In addition, the audio design has also received rework. More realistic audio propagation and reverberation means that you can pinpoint enemy locations with sound and even tell what kind of room they would be in. A new layer is introduced into tactical play.
Gameplay becomes faster-and-slower on Siege X with new destructible features. Such things as gas pipes, metal detectors, and fire extinguishers are all things you can use to outsmart your opponents in strategic ways. Rappelling and movement have improved; you can also sprint horizontally on walls while rappelling and maneuver around building corners more smoothly.
The onboarding experience designed would help the newbies out by supporting them in building up their own skills and confidence before jumping into the more intense matches.
It seems that Rainbow Six Siege X has taken a big leap forward; no matter if it's a trying to get on board veteran or that's after what all the fuss is about. With free access and plenty of new improvements and content, there's never been a better time to breach and clear.
