Sharp is making a big reveal with something genuinely different. Its new mid-range offering, the Aquos R10, is not all about a jaw-dropping design; it is packed with features normally reserved for devices in much higher price brackets. We are talking about triple high-resolution cameras with Leica craftsmanship, an incredibly fast refresh rate, and a top-of-the-line processor.
The Aquos R10 features a contemporary flat design for its display, frame, and back. That circular camera bump? Surprisingly subtle, it barely intrudes into the phone's thin (0.35 inches) body. And although thin, this phone is ready for some rough stuff! It is IP68-certified, meaning a plunge in water will not be a huge issue, plus a MIL-STD-810G rating means it has a fair chance of withstanding a drop. Seriously, one can rest easy with this thing.
Interestingly, Sharp has used the super-tough Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on the back but opted for the more budget-friendly Gorilla Glass 5 to protect the screen. Speaking of which, the Aquos R10 is powered by Sharp's 6.5-inch Pro IGZO OLED panel. Expect vibrant colors at a resolution of 2340 x 1080 pixels bright enough to shine at a peak brightness of 1500 nits on a full screen and a staggering 3000 nits for HDR content. The pièce de résistance, however, is the refresh rate, which dials down from power-gobbling 240 Hz to a battery-sipping 1 Hz. Most flagship devices would be crippled with envy! Neatly tucked inside the power button on the side, you will find a fingerprint sensor for secure unlocking.
When it comes to cameras, this is really where the Aquos R10 shines. Sharp has not been stingy in this regard, providing this phone with:
- A whopping 50MP f/2.2 front-facing camera for your selfies.
- A 50MP f/1.9 main camera endowed with a giant 1/1.55-inch sensor.
- A 50MP f/2.2 ultrawide camera for your wide-angled shots.
What about more? These were set up jointly with the legendary Leica Camera Maker. The main one has Leica Hektor lenses with a spectral sensor, which work together to capture very accurate colors. Then, of course, it can record videos in Dolby Vision HDR. That is quite a lot of imaging power for a mid-range device.
Under the hood, the zippy Qualcomm Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 processor handsomely powers the Sharp Aquos R10. And it comes with a generous 12GB of RAM, with either 256GB or 512GB of fast UFS 4.0 internal storage to choose from. If that is not enough, expandability is via a microSD card slot.
Tucking in the 5,000mAh battery with up to 36-watt fast charging through USB-C keeps everything alive and running. It will come pre-installed with Android 15 and Sharp gives a valiant claim for three major Android updates and five years of security patches-an excellent reward for the software life.
The Sharp Aquos R10 is launching early in July, first in Japan, Singapore, Taiwan, and Indonesia. The information on pricing and availability in other regions is being kept under wraps for now. If you are interested, more details will usually be available on Sharp's official website as the launch date nears.
This phone is sure to turn the mid-range market upside down-looking good, right? What do you think?
