TerraMaster now has a new place to keep data, the D4 SSD. This box is a Direct Attached Storage (DAS) kit, made to be an outside box just for M.2 SSDs. It hooks up with speed by using USB 4.
Features of the TerraMaster D4 SSD:
The D4 SSD gets data to you fast when you need to get to lots of data fast.
- Type of Storage: Outside box for up to four M.2 2280 SSDs (uses PCIe).
- Big Space: Holds up to 32TB in total.
- Hook up: Uses a USB 4 port with a speed of 40 Gbps. The PC or desktop must also be able to use USB 4 for best results.
- How fast it works:
- With four Samsung 990 Pro SSDs set in RAID 0, read speeds can go up to 3,257 MB/s, and write speeds can hit 3,192 MB/s.
- A single SSD can reach up to 1,600 MB/s (read) and 1,500 MB/s (write).
- Backing Up: Lets you back up data by itself with a tool for Windows. TerraMaster says not to use this box as the only back up for key data.
- Stays Cool: Comes with a fan to stop it from getting hot while it works.
- Using with Phones: Can be used with phones, but how to hook it up wasn't made clear at first.
- Size: The box is 5.43 x 2.36 x 5.51 inches.
Note that the D4 SSD is a DAS, not a Network Attached Storage (NAS). So it hooks up to your computer or device with a USB, and not to many users over a net.
The TerraMaster D4 SSD is ready to buy now right from TerraMaster.
Costs $299 (SSDs not included).
