Tesla Model Y Made Its First Self-Run Trip from the Factory to a Buyer

Elon Musk just shared big news for Tesla: a Model Y electric car made its way from the factory all the way to a new owner's place in Texas by itself. The car only used its own Full Self-Driving (FSD) system and did not need a driver or anyone else helping from far away, making this the first time such a trip has happened on public roads for the company.

Trip Details

Tesla's engineer, Ashok Elluswamy, said the Model Y drove through city streets and highways, hitting speeds around 116 km/h on the highway and kept to all traffic rules. The whole ride was done without any help from people.

How This Stands Out

Other brands like Waymo and Aurora are also trying self-driving on Texas roads, but Tesla's doing something special. The other companies don't yet have their cars carry people on highways and usually just run tests in smaller areas. This trip is a real use of the tech, from making the car to getting it to a customer.

This trip marks a big step, after waiting years for the FSD tech to be ready. Elon Musk first talked about full self-driving back in 2017, and this event is one of the first times a Tesla has made a real trip like this without any help from people.
