AYANEO NEXT 2 Shown with Top AMD Strix Halo Chip and Strong Cooling
AYANEO has given a first look at its next big gaming handheld, the AYANEO NEXT 2. In a new livestream event, company boss Arthur Zhang said the device will use AMD's top Strix Halo chip and will focus on high power with a big cooling system.
Top Power with Ryzen AI Max+ 395
The NEXT 2 will run on the AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 395, the best Strix Halo APU. AYANEO, with GPD, is one of the first to use this strong and costly chip. Key details of the APU are:
- CPU Cores: 16 Zen 5 cores
- GPU: RDNA 3.5-based Radeon 8060S with 40 Compute Units
Many makers pick less strong chips due to the high cost of Strix Halo, but AYANEO aims for a big jump in x86 system power for the NEXT 2.
Big Focus on Power with a Big Cooling System
To deal with the power of the Strix Halo chip, the AYANEO NEXT 2 will have a big, two-fan cooling setup. This system is more like those in gaming laptops than normal handhelds. The choice of a big cooler is meant to use the full power of the hardware.
The company's skill in managing the heat comes from work done on its AI395 Mini PC project. A sample PCB shown in the livestream gave a look at the SoC, LPDDR5X RAM chips, M.2 SSD slots, and various ports.
Design, Screen, and When it Comes
The push for power and cooling will make it one of the biggest PC gaming handhelds out there. The screen may be about 10 inches, but that's not sure yet. The whole look seems much bigger than many others.
While early designs have been shown, the end look may change. The AYANEO NEXT 2 is said to be coming out this year.
