NVIDIA to Start Selling Weaker GeForce RTX 5090 D V2 in China for Less Money

NVIDIA is set to release a new take on its GeForce RTX 5090 in China, named the RTX 5090 D V2. This model has been cut back further to meet new US export rules and will be sold for much less than the first RTX 5090 D.

Key Changes Lower Memory Specs

The main change in the RTX 5090 D V2 is a big cut in memory specs, forced by export limits. The new card will have:

  • VRAM: 24 GB GDDR7
  • Memory Bus: 384-bit

This is a step down from the first RTX 5090 and RTX 5090 D, which both had 32 GB of GDDR7 VRAM on a 512-bit bus. Even though the 24 GB is still good for gaming, this drop is a big deal for AI work.

The first RTX 5090 D was less strong for AI than the worldwide RTX 5090. This new V2 model keeps that up, making other types (sold via custom biz channels) more liked for AI tasks in China.

Price Cut by 30%

The drop in specs will show in the price. As per a report from Chiphell, the new model's price will be:

  • GeForce RTX 5090 D V2 (New): Thought to be 14,000 Yuan (about $1950 USD).
  • GeForce RTX 5090 D (First): Came out at 20,000 Yuan (about $2800 USD).

This is a cut of 6,000 Yuan, or around 30%, for the new model.

Launch Time and Getting the First RTX 5090 D

The new GeForce RTX 5090 D V2 should come out in the first week of August, and you could buy it in stores a week after that.

Until then, NVIDIA's board partners are selling off what's left of the first RTX 5090 D. These first cards are almost gone and may sell out fast, maybe before the V2 model hits the shelves.
