Experts Say PS6 Could Have 24GB RAM Due to Key Needs
The PlayStation 6 might get more RAM than the 16GB in PlayStation 5. Tech pros at Digital Foundry think it might go up. They say 24GB of RAM is likely and makes sense for the next console for a few big reasons.
Why 24GB Fits the PS6
Digital Foundry named four main reasons for picking 24GB of RAM:
- Tech Needs Ahead: More RAM is needed to handle new tech like better ray tracing and smart tech, which will be big for PlayStation's future.
- Limits Now: Developers are already finding 16GB small, especially for high-quality images and artwork.
- High DRAM Costs: DRAM prices have stayed high, making a big jump to 32GB or more too costly, which would push up the console's price.
- Possible New Handheld: If a new PlayStation handheld comes with 16GB of RAM, having 24GB in the PS6 would make it easier for game studios to work on both.
The Next Xbox A Different Plan
Guessing the next Xbox is harder, as Microsoft might try a different way. They might not face the PlayStation 6 head-on, but could make a console more like a pre-made PC. Digital Foundry said Microsoft looked into this before. This could position the next Xbox between regular consoles and basic PCs in price, maybe with more RAM and a bigger APU than the PS6.
A New PlayStation Handheld's Effect
The expected new PlayStation handheld is a big part of these guesses. It's said to run PlayStation 5 games by itself and might be stronger than the Xbox Series S. Its arrival could shape Sony's plans for the PS6 to keep a smooth game world for both developers and players.
