Assassin's Creed Was Originally Planned as a Trilogy Ubisoft Changed Course After Early Success

The First Plan for Assassin's Creed Just Three Games

The big world of Assassin's Creed, a top money-maker for Ubisoft, was not meant to grow as huge as it now is. A main worker said they first set it to end after three games.

Big Change Due to Big Wins

Alex Hutchinson, who led the making of Assassin's Creed III, said Ubisoft first wanted just a trilogy. The full tale was to stop in our time, ending the story of Desmond Miles for good.

But, the great cash made from the first two games made them change the plan. Seeing how well the games did, Ubisoft chose to drop the three-game end and keep the series going no end. So, the end of Assassin's Creed III got changed just before release. This change let Ubisoft make more games and new stories.

How the Games Grew and What's Next

Since it started in 2007, Assassin's Creed got very big. Now there are 25 games, counting new parts and side stories, with the newest one named Assassin's Creed Shadows (2025).

Ubisoft still thinks big for this series. Inside talk says they plan nine new games in six years, including ones for phones, redoing old games, and new takes. Also, Ubisoft and Netflix are working together to make a show from the games.
