Asus V500 Mini Tower Uses Laptop CPU with Desktop GPU Power
Asus now has the V500 Mini Tower, a small PC with a laptop CPU that can work with a big desktop graphics card. This setup is said to use less power and have a more quiet cooling setup inside its less than 24-liter body.
Mixing Strength and Saving Power
The main idea of the V500 is to use a laptop chip, up to an Intel Core i7-13620H. This chip has six fast cores and six low-power cores, cooled by a big cooler. It stays at a steady 95 watts.
Asus points out two key gains with this setup:
- It uses 34% less power than a normal desktop.
- It is more quiet, with fan sound at just 38 dB when working hard.
Yet, this design has a big downside. Using a laptop chip means you can't change the CPU later, something you can do with low-power desktop chips like the Intel's T-series.

Even with its different CPU pick, the V500 works with normal desktop parts in other ways.
