Apple Aims for 100 Million Units of iPhone 17 in 2025: Reports
According to The Elec, Apple is aiming at an ambitious production figure for the iPhone 17 lineup, with an estimate of around 100 million units in 2025. This figure is strategically higher than the initial 90 million unit estimate for the iPhone 16 that was cut down to 84 million due to lower demand. The 2025 lineup is expected to see the 'Plus' model replaced by an all-new sleeker iPhone 17 Air.
Priority Pro Model Strategy and the Production Chain
The report gave a clear hierarchy of priority in production; however, it did not share the percentage shipment plan for each model. The greatest quantity will be for the iPhone 17 Pro Max, which will be advanced the most in upgrades, whilst the subsequent order numbers for the other models are listed here:
- Second-most quantity: Pro iPhone 17
- Third-most quantity: Standard iPhone 17
- Fourth: iPhone 17 Air (least quantity)
Supply Chain Synching to Eco Production
A full-scale production will thus require Apple to apply some moves to its supply chain. It is now said that BOE joins established panel suppliers Samsung and LG to supply LTPO OLED panels for the iPhone 17 Pro.
The report outlines the strategy behind this in relation to cost management on tariffs. The company has encouraged its suppliers to go high-tech or automated, diversifying its base of manufacturers - up to five different companies for components such as DRAM and NAND types. Diversification gives Apple a good handling over price negotiations, thereby improving the company's profit margin. Production will happen in both India and China, with the assumption that China will attain the highest output.
The success of the 100 million target will depend on demand from the marketplace and competition throughout next year.
