Epic Games Introduces Groundbreaking Changes to Fortnite Creator Economy

There have been major expansions added to the creator program that allows developers to sell their own in-game items directly from their Fortnite islands, announced Epic Games. This feature, launching in December 2025, is just one part of a more aggressive push for greater creator revenue.

Direct Sale of In-Game Assets by Creators

Here comes the big moment for selling flying colors. Starting from December 2025, creators will be able, on their islands, to sell durable and consumable digital items that they create using UEFN and Verse-based APIs. The revenue-sharing model is as follows:

  • Standard Model: 50% of the V-Bucks value from sales made by the Islands will go to creators, and this works out to an average of about 37%, considering the platform fee.
  • Promotional Launching model: Definitely an eye-catcher. To increase uptake, Epic is bestowing upon creators a regal 100% revenue share from sales made from December 2025 until the series conclusion in 2026, which is equivalent to an average of about 74% of total revenue.

Epic pointed out that its standard payout ratio is much better than other competitors like Roblox, who offer their creators a mere 25% from in-experience sales.

Updates to Engagement Payouts

Direct Sales Apart, Engagement payouts will be improved. There is currently an engagement pool set up from 40% of net revenue from Fortnite's Item shop; this pool is distributed to creators.

An update to the payout pool will commence on November 1, 2025 such that any creator that brought in new or inactive players would earn a further 75% of the engagement payout pool contributed by those players for six months.

New Discovery and Community Tools

To help creators savor the promotion of their islands and build an audience, Epic will be launching two new operations:

  • Sponsored row: Launching in November, a new sponsored row shall appear on Discover page of Fortnite. Creators can bid for placement on this row, and all creators shall gain access to market data for the auction system. Revenue generated from this would also be shared by 100% to creators through the end of 2026 and 50% in 2027.
  • Creator Communities: This Creator Communities feature for developers to create community forums, post updates to islands, have feedback gathered, and advertise events will be rolled out all within some months here. These posts will be seen in-game by players across Island Lobbies, Creator Pages, and that new Discover row.

Investing in the Creator Ecosystem

Amid all this, these undertakings show Epic's continued investment in the UEFN platform. The company revealed that more than 11.2 billion hours were spent by players playing on over 260,000 creator-made islands, and there have been $722 million in payouts to this point.
