AYANEO NEXT 2 Gaming Handheld Officially Announced
The Chinese company AYANEO has officially put on record its NEXT 2 gaming handheld confirming some core hardware and features here and there. While the announcement hints at the power of the device, so far crucial specifications such as display information, battery capacity, memory, and storage configurations remain undisclosed.
Core Hardware: Powered by AMD Strix Halo
AYANEO NEXT 2 is a Windows-based handheld built upon the AMD "Strix Halo" APU, officially known as the Ryzen AI Max+ 395. Thus, it places itself against similar machines from GPD and OneXPlayer, making it the third gaming handheld in existence to feature this chip.
- APU: AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 395
- CPU Cores: 16-core / 32-thread Zen 5 architecture.
- Integrated Graphics: RDNA 3.5-based Radeon 8060S, with performance stated to be nearly comparable to a mobile RTX 4060 GPU.
Controller and Design Features
AYANEO has claimed multiple advanced features for the NEXT 2 control scheme and physical design:
- Advanced Joysticks: The device utilizes what AYANEO refers to as "exclusive TMR", large joystick options for an improved control experience.
- Dual-Mode Triggers: Users are able to switch between a short-throw "hair trigger" mode and a full-range Hall Effect analog mode.
- Layout: The layout has a standard Xbox controller design with ABXY buttons and a circular D-Pad.
- Cooling: The handheld has a dual-fan cooling system capable of handling heat from the powerful APU.
What Remains Unconfirmed
Regardless of these announcements, AYANEO has kept several keys to specifications out of the spotlight:
- Display: The display is called only a "Top-tier" screen with no information on size, resolution, panel type, or refresh rate.
- Battery: It is described as an "extra-large" battery, but there are no details about its capacity. It is indeed a built-in, non-removable battery.
- Memory and Storage: Official RAM and storage options have not yet been announced. While the competitors are starting from 32 GB RAM and 1 TB storage, it is not yet confirmed for the base configuration of the AYANEO.
Pricing and Availability
AYANEO is yet to declare an official price, available configurations, or release date for the NEXT 2. Based on the high-end hardware, it is believed to be a pricey device with a price point probably above $1500.
