Hollow Knight: Silksong Launches to Overwhelming Demand, Shatters Player Records
Hollow Knight: Silksong has launched officially and immediately attained gigantic success. In the first hour, the game's high popularity resulted in a crash for all digital storefronts that had been sold out and set a new record for concurrent players beyond that of its predecessor.
A Record-Breaking Debut
The launch for the game on Steam is testimony to how incredibly anticipated it was. Some important launch statistics are:
- New Concurrent Player Record-103,994 users logged in within the first hour, 535,213 an all-time high according to steamDB.
- The previous record was overtaken in a matter of minutes, the original Hollow Knight's max of 72,916 concurrent users.
- There were some issues with obtaining the game, as the massive rush on concurrent players supposedly brought Steam and the Xbox store down.
The Culmination of a Long Wait
Such immense success follows from years of fan anticipation. Following a long stalled development period filled with few updates, two weeks ago, developer Team Cherry announced a release with a crash surprise for early September. This last announcement brought the community back to life, carrying that excitement right through to launch day.
What's New in Silksong
From the looks of it, the long wait might prove worth it. Hollow Knight: Silksong builds on the tried-and-true format of the original game while implementing a host of new features. Players will guide protagonist Hornet through the new Kingdom of Pharloom in search of secrets from her past. These upgrades include:
- Greater strength with tougher bosses.
- A full questing system.
- An entirely new story and world to explore.
