Intel Speaks about the Future of Arc Graphics After NVIDIA Collaboration
Given the reports about a collaboration between Intel and NVIDIA, many have speculated that Intel's graphics division was on its last legs. It was thought that NVIDIA cores stood a good chance of being used in future Intel processors instead of an integrated Arc iGPU. Nevertheless, the company has stressed that this recent partnership does not mean that it is giving up on its own graphics development.
Intel on Arc
In a direct statement to PCWorld, an Intel representative clarified its position. They stated:
"collaboration with NVIDIA complements the current roadmap, not replaces it."
It thus now becomes the official word from Intel that it would develop not only for its Arc products but also others in the graphics family, as yet unspecified.
Plausibility of Analysts
Regardless of Intel's assertions, industry experts remain unconvinced. They raise questions over the logic of investing so much in GPU development when a much easier option is available with NVIDIA's off-the-shelf solutions. The dedicated video card market is known to be one of the most expensive and competitive, and possibly Intel's ranking amongst the top firms to send out mass layoffs to balance its budgets.
Likely Scenario for Intel's graphics
According to the analysts, the more usual scenario would see a division of labor, where Intel could go on developing its Arc graphics for specialized niche applications while letting its mainstream CPU graphics rely heavily on an NVIDIA-integrated technology.
