First Glimpse AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme Powers Lenovo's Legion Go 2 Handheld
The second-generation gaming handheld, the Legion Go 2, is being launched by Lenovo. This device comes with certain prowess like the AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme APU and several other enhancements, thus a clear improvement over its predecessor. Its base price starts at $1049.
The Core Specifications and Any Upgrades
The Legion Go 2 comes with AMD's mobile processors. Configurations starting from somebody higher up to Ryzen Z2 Extreme will be available, while others will be offered with lower levels of Ryzen Z2.
- Ryzen Z2 Extreme: Comes from the new "Strix Point" APUs housed with 8 Zen 5 cores, 16 threads lying around, and RDNA 3.5 graphics with 16 Compute Units (CUs).
- Ryzen Z2: Based on the "Hawk Point" APUs with 8 Zen 4 cores, 16 threads, and RDNA 3 graphics with 12 CUs.
Display, Memory, and Storage
An important upgrade is the new display and internal hardware:
- Display: 8.8 inches OLED with 1200p,144Hz refresh rate. It has peak brightness of 500 nits, True Black 1000 HDR, and its native landscape orientation. Unlike its predecessor, which had a 1600p IPS display, this one is better.
- Memory: Now with 32 GB LPDDR5X-8000 RAM vs. 16 GB LPDDR5X-7500 on the first Legion Go.
- Storage: 1 TB internal PCIe storage, expandable via MicroSD card support of up to 2 TB.
Design and Ergonomics
Compared to the first version, Legion Go 2 feels more ergonomic and aesthetically pleasing. With a detachable controller, it retains the versatile 3-in-1 design that functioned as a handheld, a tablet, or a portable PC when using the controller dock with the FPS stick.
Cooling and Battery
Work has been done by Lenovo to enhance thermal and power systems.
- Cooling: The ancestors were revised to install an oversized manually controlled fan tuned for massive airflow and equipped with gigantic exhaust vents.
- Battery: 74Whr battery increased significantly from 49.2Whr of the original model. 65W AC Adapter is included.
Connectivity and Features
The icing on the cake includes I/O interface and useful features:
- Ports: Stats: 2 USB 4.0 Type-C ports (supporting DisplayPort 2.0 and Power Delivery 3.0), 3.5mm combo audio jack, and microSD card reader.
- Security: A fingerprint reader located on the back of the device.
Pricing and Availability
The Lenovo Legion Go 2 will have a starting price of $1049 in the US. The device is expected to be ready for sale later in September 2025.
