Nintendo's General Direct for September 12 Confirmed on the Occasion of Mario's 40th Anniversary
Nintendo will host yet another Nintendo Direct this Friday, September 12, 2025. It follows the buzz about a mid-September Direct and is purposely set for the day before the 40th anniversary of the original Super Mario Bros.
Event Details and What It Has to Offer
The announcement first came through the Nintendo Today mobile app and was later substantiated by the official Nintendo of America X account. This will be the second public Nintendo Direct of 2025 and is seen as being primarily games-related rather than hardware.
- Date and Time: Friday, September 12, 2025, 6 am PT / 9 am ET / 2 pm BT.
- Duration: Roughly 60 minutes.
- Content: Future games both on Nintendo Switch and the new Nintendo Switch 2.
Highly Anticipated Major Game Announcements
While the full roster is unknown, very strong suggestions point toward at least two big reveals during the presentation.
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Date of Release
Most have high expectations for this Direct to officially announce a release date for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. The game was classified in South Korea in July as well as had a playable demo at Toronto's Fan Expo last month. All of this would seem to suggest a release date announcement is imminent.
New 3D Mario Game
Since this Direct is just around the 40th anniversary of Super Mario Bros., it can be safely assumed that Nintendo will announce next their flagship mainline 3D Mario title. It is anyone's guess whether this will be a direct sequel to Super Mario Odyssey or a totally new concept. It is unlikely Nintendo would let this anniversary pass without a significant Mario-related announcement.
