PCIe Gen6 Enterprise SSDs Coming in 2026-2027
In 2026-2027, PCIe Gen6 Enterprise SSDs are likely to be brought out by some leading manufacturers. Preparing to introduce the next-generation PCIe Gen6 storage solutions to the enterprise and server markets are leading SSD manufacturers. Samsung, InnoGrit, and Silicon Motion announced at the GMIF Innovation Summit 2025 in Shenzhen their plans to accommodate the increasing demands of AI and data center workloads.
Samsung Targets 512 TB PCIe Gen6 SSDs by 2027
Kevin Yoo, VP & Chief Technology Officer of the Memory Business Unit at Samsung, provided an extensive roadmap of the company's next-generation storage products:
- PM1763 Gen6 SSD This solution is expected to undergo commercial launch in early 2026 and is expected to double up performance and improve energy efficiency, operating at 25W.
- CXL 3.1 and PCIe 6.0 CMM-D These next-generation products are also expected to be available in 2026.
- Capacity Expansion Samsung is bringing a 512 TB Gen6 SSD at around 2027, its characteristics being, among other things, the 1T form factor EDSFF, after rolling out 256 TB of Gen5.
- Z-NAND 7th Gen Z-NAND with GIDS is also planned for release in 2026.
InnoGrit and Silicon Motion to Debut Their Gen6 Solutions
Other major players in the storage industry also open up on their development plans for PCIe Gen6 for the enterprise segment.
InnoGrit AI Enterprise SSDs
InnoGrit is building its next solution specifically targeting the AI Enterprise market. The company is looking at performance so high that they'll reach for up to 25 million IOPS and 512B Random Read speeds. InnoGrit expects to release its first PCIe 6.0 SSDs by 2026.
Silicon Motion SM8466 Controller
Silicon Motion showcased its controller SM8466 of PCIe Gen6 SSD that is designed to support the next wave of drives for enterprises. Such controllers have the following features:
- Sequential Speeds Up to 28 GB/s.
- Capacity Support Up to 512 TB.
Market Forecast Enterprise First, Consumer Later
The current planned roadmap for the PCIe Gen6 SSDs comprises entirely enterprise-focusing devices, and the first products in respective category are expected to be unveiled in 2026. Launching for the consumer segment is going to come in much later, possibly around 2028 or 2029.
