Skilled Enthusiasts Make A Fully Portable PlayStation 5
The enthusiast calling himself TERA has bridged the gap between portable and stationary consoles by producing a customized portable version of the PlayStation 5. The whole setup lies within a suitcase that houses its own screen.
The PS5 Suitcase Project
Transformation of a standard PS5 into an all-important portable console was no easy task:
- The original PS5 was completely disassembled first.
- Then the cooling system was modified for optimum performance in the new format, which has small space.
- All of the internal components were fitted to a small custom case that resembles a suitcase.
- A custom LCD monitor was then fitted into one wall of the case, allowing gameplay anywhere.
Sony's Portable Plans and Future Rumors
While this unique custom build may never see any more portable than this, it certainly shows that there is a demand for powerful portable gaming. Sony, on the side, has its cloud streaming "PS5 Portable" project.
Rumors have also begun to circulate on the possibility of a full-fledged portable console by Sony as part of their next-generation PlayStation 6 line next-gen console. One insider claims to have knowledge of its technical specifications, but expects that it won't even be released before late 2027.
